Two major factors contributing to relationship anxiety are fear and worry. What causes relationship anxiety will differ and depends on the circumstances that triggered it. Distinctively, abusive relationships can cause anxiety for different reasons from those that develop because of problems raising children or because of past unprocessed life events. The intensity of relationship anxiety may range from low–moderate-high or severe.

Signs you may be experiencing relationship anxiety include:

  • No positive expectation about the future of the relationship 

•    Fights

•    Negativity

•    Stress

A few common physical symptoms of relationship anxiety include:

•    Insomnia

•    Muscle tension

•    Shaking

Sadly, relationship anxiety has the potential to filter into other areas of your life.  Therefore, it is imperative that you address both personal and external factors contributing to your relationship anxiety. 

Solutions for Relationship Anxiety

  • Managing your relationship anxiety has more to do with you than it does with the other person. 
  • Starting over by talk with your partner to find alternatives to restore and repair the relationship. This will require both people in the partnership to change unflepful communication habits.
  • Exchanging Needs- discuss your needs and listen to your partners needs.
  • Be Physically Affectionate- Hug at the end of day vanishes your stress away! Don’t lose the physical affection even when there is a heated argument.
  • Don’t ignore you or your partner’s relationship anxiety – act to take the right action to resolve the issues contributing to the relationship anxiety.
  • Prevention is better than cure – seek professional help early.
